“Amerigo” – Road

$12,000 – New

Summary

Photos coming soon!

A bicycle built in the classic style and meant for racing, fitness training, and exhilirating explorations of paved roads.

Built around a thin-wall, high-performance, handmade frame and fork, this is a bicycle built for road riding and exploration. The fully lugged frame and fork are built in the style of road bicycles before the ubiquity of carbon fiber. Contrastingly equipped with carbon-fiber-extensive Campagnolo Super Record 11-speed group and sturdy, but lightweight, DT Swiss Mon Chasseral wheels, it is designed to be enjoyed during high-performance road riding and racing, but may also be admired between rides as a work of art.

The frame is finished in metallic green polyurethane paint with complementary white paint on the fork, matched to white DT Swiss hubs and rims; white Ritchey WCS handlebars, stem, and seatpost. The beautiful paint is accented by polished stainless steel head lugs, seat stay caps, fork crown, dropouts, and fork ends.

The frame size is 58cm (center-to-top) with a 56.5cm (center-to-center) top tube length.

Be sure to place your order soon! A non-refundable down payment of $1,200 is required to secure your order, which is applied to the purchase price; balance due prior to shipping.

This bicycle is also available with a frame custom-sized for you at no extra cost, which includes the same polished stainless accents and paint scheme. Please be aware that custom frames have a six-month lead time from the date of receipt of down payment, not including time at paint.

Frame Geometry

A well-proportioned, typical “square” diamond frame designed for nimble handling and out-of-the-saddle climbing. The 58cm (center-to-top) frame is sized for 700c x 23mm-32mm wheels (maximum) to give about 78.8cm (31.0”) of stand-over, depending on the tires used (here, Tufo C Elite Ride 25, which measure 25mm on the equipped DT Swiss Mon Chasseral rims). The 56.5cm top tube is sized to give good range of adjustment (with appropriate stem) for the majority of “tall” riders. The appropriate stem length will be determined at the time of purchase.

Designed for everyday fun, the combination of chain stay length, 73° seat and 74° head tube angles, and fork offset provide an exhilirating, yet comfortable, ride that conveys a sense of confidence when cornering or maneuvering around obstacles at any reasonable speed and climbing out-of-the-saddle.

Frame Details

Built for racing, training, and road-riding fun, the frame uses over-size, Dedacciai main tubes, Columbus Life seat stays, Columbus Ultra Foco chain stays, and True Temper fork blades. Equipped with high-quality investment-cast, stainless steel lugs and bottom bracket shell (Long Shen), Llewellyn investment-cast stainless steel vertical dropouts and fork ends, and a hollow, investment-cast stainless steel fork crown (Long Shen).

Braze-ons include: two sets of reinforced stainless steel water bottle braze-ons (front of seat tube, top of down tube); braze-on stainless steel front dérailleur hanger; stainless steel Llewellyn down tube shift lever stops; stainless steel chain hanger; stainless steel rear dérailleur cable stop; stainless steel over-the-bottom-bracket shell dérailleur cable guides; and, a stainless steel internal top tube rear brake cable guide.

This frame is built for longevity: all lugs are hand-shaped and -fitted; the frame is assembled one tube at a time to minimize residual stress from the heating/cooling cycle and to minimize the otherwise consequent need for cold-setting. With the exception of the seat stay caps, the frame is low-temperature silver-brazed to also minimize heating-cooling cycle-induced residual stresses and to allow for long-term repairability in case of mishaps; the stainless steel seat stay caps are attached using nickel-bronze brazing filler for added strength and resistance to under-cutting from the polishing process.

As with every Domínguez frame, the frame and fork are immersed in a heated zinc-phosphate rust inhibitor prior to painting to ensure longevity of the frame.

The frame is finished in metallic green polyurethane paint with complementary white paint on the fork. The beautiful paint is accented by the mirror-like polished stainless steel head lugs, seat stay caps, fork crown, dropouts, and fork ends. Decals are applied under a glossy clear-coat finish for long-lasting protection.

Components

This bicycle is equipped with a high-end components, primarily from Campagnolo, DT Swiss, and Ritchey.

The wheels are factory-built DT Swiss Mon Chasseral, durable and light-weight, fitted with Campagnolo Record (ca. 2004) quick-release skewers. High-quality Tufo C Elite Ride 25 “tubular-clincher” tires with integral inner tubes (presta valves) give a sure-footed ride.

The gear ratios provide 3.4 to 9.5 meters development (42.1 to 119.3 gear inches), which is suitable for rolling hills and some challenging climbs; for anyone moderately fit or wanting to become moderately fit.

The drive train is composed of Campagnolo Super Record 11-cog cassette (12-25-tooth) connected by a Campagnolo Super Record chain to the Campagnolo Super Record 39/53-tooth chainrings fitted to the 180mm carbon-fiber Campagnolo Super Record crankset, providing smooth, dependable shifting and power transmission. The integrated stainless steel, hollow axle rides on sealed ceramic bearings in external Campagnolo Super Record cups.

Shifting is accomplished from the Campagnolo Super Record carbon-fiber ErgoPower brake-shift lever controls which opperate a braze-on Campagnolo Super Record front dérailleur, a short-cage carbon-fiber Campagnolo Super Record rear dérailleur, and a set of Campagnolo Super Record “Skeleton” dual-pivot side-pull brakes with titanium fittings. The brake levers are very comfortable for most hand sizes. The brake levers give excellent brake feel and modulation; the stopping power of the brakes is also excellent.

The rider contact points are: extremely smooth-turning and reliable Campagnolo Record Pro-Fit pedals (Look cleat bolt pattern) for the feet; a Selle Italia SLR (TT) saddle for the rear, supported by a Ritchey WCS seatpost. Synthetic cork tape from Cinelli for the handlebars nicely cushion the hands. Handlebars are light-weight Ritchey WCS (44cm width x 31.8mm clamping diameter) attached to a 90mm Ritchey WCS stem. The headset is the reliable and durable Cane Creek Model 110 for 1-1/8” threadless steerer tubes.

Campagnolo low-friction brake and dérailleur cable housings, Campagnolo brake and dérailleur cables, and two sets of Minoura aluminum alloy water bottle cages finish everything off.

Narrower or wider handlebars, shorter or longer stem options, alternative pedals and saddle, are all available at nominal extra cost.
